On the morning of July 17, a woman went into violent labor in the Lincoln Tunnel. Thanks to the help of police officers, a healthy boy was born to the family right in the car on the road, according to Pix11.
The driver of the car and newly-made father Nestor Gualpa stopped the car near the policeman in the tunnel at about 9 am and informed officer Timothy Josephchik that a woman was giving birth in their car. When the officer approached the future mother of Maria Marin, he noticed that the baby’s head was already visible, that is, there was no time left for a trip to the hospital.
Josefchik told Marin to keep pushing, and about three minutes later, little Kilian Aaron Gualpa Castano was born.
After Kilian’s birth, a second officer, Evan Butt, a former lifeguard medic in the New York City Fire Department, arrived on the scene. He helped clamp the umbilical cord before paramedics arrived.
“We are so happy that we got help from the police,” said young father Nestor Gualpa. “We are immensely grateful that they were there and that everyone is healthy. Watching the officers carefully and expertly handle the situation was amazing. They are our heroes. It was like something out of a movie and I will never forget the experience.”
Marin and Kilian were taken to the hospital. The weight of the newborn boy was 3 kg. Officer Josefchik, who has been with the police for nine years, admitted to being agitated, and this is his first experience of having a baby.
“I exhaled when the baby cried, and I am so glad that everyone is healthy,” he admitted.
