Open-Air Movies to be Shown for Free on Governors Island: Schedule

Cinema, fresh air, a view of New York – the recipe for a perfect summer evening. Film at Lincoln Center and Governors Island Arts have teamed up to bring this recipe to life.

The Rule-Breakers and Troublemakers free film series will take place outdoors at the historic Parade Ground on Governors Island. This lawn offers a gorgeous view of Lower Manhattan. Films will be shown on one of the Fridays of every summer month.

“Set It Off” (1996) is scheduled to air on June 9 at 8:30 pm about former bank teller Frankie (Vivica A. Fox) who struggles to make ends meet by working as a cleaner in mid-1990s Los Angeles. As a result, he and his friends decide to rob banks.

On July 8, viewers will be offered the film “Out of Sight” (1998). It stars George Clooney as Jack Foley, a professional bank robber on the run after escaping from a Florida prison, and Jennifer Lopez as US Marshal Karen Sisko, a serious law enforcement officer determined to put Foley back in jail.

The series of film screenings will end on Friday, August 11, a film about football “Bend It Like Beckham” (2002).
