NYPD called all officers

The New York Police Department (NYPD) ordered all police officers to report for duty starting October 13 in anticipation of possible unrest. They are possible in connection with the call of the former leader of the Hamas movement for global demonstrations in support of the Palestinians. The New York Post reported more.

“All officers at all ranks will be in uniform and must be prepared to report for duty,” reads a memo sent to all NYPD officers on the evening of October 11.

Police officers will not be given deferments or shift changes, and the order will remain in effect “until further notice,” the memo said.

The order came after Khaled Meshaal, who led Hamas from 2004 to 2017, called on the Islamic world to hold protests on October 13, encouraging the people of neighboring countries to join the fight against Israel, writes Reuters.

“We must take to the squares and streets of the Arab and Islamic world on August 13,” Meshaal, who currently heads Hamas’s branch in the diaspora, said in a recorded statement.

According to Mashaal, who lives in Qatar, the governments and people of Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Egypt have an obligation to support the Palestinians.

“Tribes of Jordan, sons of Jordan, brothers and sisters of Jordan… This is the moment of truth, and the borders are close to you, you all know your responsibilities,” he admonished.

Jordan and Lebanon are home to the largest numbers of Palestinian refugees.

“For all scholars who teach about jihad… for all who teach and learn, this is the moment to apply the theory,” Mashaal stressed.

The NYPD is beefing up security at all of its 77 precincts by assigning additional officers to monitor entrances and parking lots within precincts, according to the memo.

In addition, the Joint Operations Center (JOC) has been activated at Manhattan headquarters in anticipation of possible unrest.

From Oct. 12 to Oct. 15, various agencies, including the Department of Sanitation, the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority and the FDNY, will be required to notify the JOC “as soon as they become aware of any incidents related to this event,” the memo states.

Mashaal’s call came as Israeli troops continued to launch retaliatory strikes on the Gaza Strip in response to the deadly attack launched by Hamas.

More than 1,200 people, including 22 Americans, were killed by Hamas terrorists in Israel, and another 1,100 were killed in the Gaza Strip as a result of Israeli airstrikes.
