A woman from New York and her pet have gained unexpected popularity on social networks. The reason was a video of how the mistress carries her 23-pound dog in a backpack, according to the New York Post.

Jackie Hornung, who shared a video of her adorable Samoyed dog Lumi being carried, touched the heartstrings of millions of TikTok users.

Lumi settled comfortably in the backpack. His fluffy head sticks out, and his bear-like paws lie on the shoulders of the hostess when she enters the New York subway. The video then shows a train ride where Lumi towers over her owner’s back, quietly enjoying the ride.

The one and a half year old Samoyed, whose name means “snow” in Finnish, loves to be worn. And stays “pretty calm” while in a backpack, Hornung said.

The video, which has been viewed more than three million times, left netizens in awe of Lumi. But it also raised the question of why such a large dog needs to be carried around in a backpack.

“Dogs must be in bags on the New York subway! That’s why he’s in the backpack,” read the text overlaid on Hornung’s video.

As bizarre as it sounds, Hornung is right and follows the law.

“No one is allowed to bring an animal onto any vehicle or facility unless it is in a carrier or bag,” the MTA Passenger Conduct Rules say.

TikTok users asked if Lumi was tight in her backpack. But Horning assured worried commentators that the pack is “pretty roomy.” And the dog can sit quietly while inside.

“Everyone pets him, which he likes very much,” said the hostess.

The American Kennel Club describes Samoyeds as “graceful” and “highly functional” dogs with a “perpetual smile”. They are intelligent and sociable, but also mischievous and require attention and affection.

After posting the video, Lumi got his fair share of attention from TikTok users

“He’s so fluffy,” one user commented.

“He’s so damn cute, like you’re carrying a cloud in your backpack,” wrote another.

“NGL, the safest car for the train, because the good mood cloud will calm all passengers,” one user joked.

Not only did Lumi receive praise, other users commented on Horning’s ingenuity.

“I love it when I see how people made this rule so vague,” commented one user.

“You are undoubtedly an amazing dog owner. It’s not only cute but also selfless,” said another user.
