In New York you can ride vintage subway trains: how to buy tickets
The New York Transit Museum’s vintage holiday attraction is back. Every Saturday between Thanksgiving (November 23) and Christmas Day (December 25), New Yorkers can board vintage New York City Subway trains in Manhattan, starting at the 2nd Avenue platform on the F line and on the 145th platform on the D line in city center. The Holiday Nostalgia trains feature eight cars used in the 1930s. What awaits you there, the publication 6sqft told.
This year’s train consists of eight R1/9 cars, which were introduced into service on the Eighth Avenue Line (the modern A/C/E Line) and ran until 1977. The retro carriages feature rattan seats, bladed ceiling fans, incandescent light bulbs, roller signs and vintage advertising.
The Holiday Nostalgia Train departs from 2nd Avenue to:
- 10:00;
- 12:00;
- 14:00;
- 16:00.

- 13:00;
- 15:00;
- 17:00.
The Holiday Nostalgia Train will operate between 2nd Avenue on the F Line platform in Uptown and 145th Street on the D Line platform in Downtown, making stops at the following stations:

Vintage trains are scheduled for December 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30. Please note that on December 2nd the train will only serve Platform D in the 145th Street Uptown.

For smaller adventures, holiday trains will return for the first time since 2019 at the annual holiday fair at Grand Central Terminal. The event will feature intricate displays of model trains departing from a miniature replica of Grand Central Station. This year the exhibition will begin on November 16 and will last until February 2024. Tickets cost $5.
