Eight major Jewish organizations in New York and New Jersey have formed the Jewish Security Alliance of NY/NJ in response to a series of violent anti-Semitic attacks and threats in the region. The alliance includes five Jewish federations, the ADL, Community Security Initiative of New York, UJA-Federation of New York, JCRC-NY, and the Community Security Service’s Northeastern Division. The group will act as a central point of contact for local and federal security agencies and provide security advice and training for Jewish institutions. CEO of the Community Security Service, Evan Bernstein, called the alliance “critical” for the safety and security of the Jewish community.

Eight leading organizations serving the Jewish community in New York and New Jersey announced on March 28 a new joint security initiative called the Jewish Security Alliance of NY/NJ, reports the Jerusalem Post.
According to the announcement, the new security agency will be “a clearinghouse for information, training and resources.” Its creation came after a series of violent anti-Semitic attacks and threats against synagogues in New York.
The newly formed alliance includes five Jewish federations of New York and New Jersey: ADL, Community Security Initiative (CSI) of New York, UJA-Federation of New York, JCRC-NY, Community Security Service’s Northeastern Division (CSS).
Its tasks include providing security advice and training to employees of Jewish institutions. As well as serving as the central point of contact for federal and local agencies on matters and incidents affecting the security of the Jewish community in New York and New Jersey.
“Partnership is key. Coordination and collaboration in moments of crisis is critical,” said Evan Bernstein, CEO of CSS.

“We cannot afford to act in isolation. These working partnerships make our Jewish community safer. When we can share intelligence and work in coordination with law enforcement, everyone benefits. This should become the norm, not an isolated case. Anti-Semitism is not going anywhere. We, the Jewish community, cannot allow people who hate us to prevent us from practicing Judaism. Safety and security are critical and partnerships like this only help us,” Bernstein added.
Antisemitism in New York and New Jersey
In 2022, New York in particular, and the United States in general, saw a significant increase in anti-Semitic hate crimes. In the Big Apple, attacks on Jews increased by 41% in 2022.
There were 293 anti-Semitic incidents in 2022, up from 207 in 2021, according to a new report.
New York and New Jersey ranked first and third, respectively, among the states with the most reported anti-Semitic incidents.
