Police have discovered a soundproof room in the basement of suspected serial killer Rex Hoyerman’s home. The investigation suggests that at least one of the victims was killed in this room. Daily Mail has collected all the new information about the maniac from Gilgo Beach (New York).
Robert Musto, Hoyerman’s 64-year-old neighbor, recounted what he learned from police, who have been investigating the suspect’s residence since Hoyerman’s July 13 arrest.
“He has a soundproof room in the basement. What do you think it is for? This guy is crazy,” the neighbor said.
Hoyerman was arrested and charged with the murder of three of the Gilgo Four, a group of women whose bodies were found near Gilgo Beach on Long Island in 2010. He pleaded not guilty to the murders of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman and Amber Costello.
Police are now checking to see if other victims were at the suspect’s home, but there is no evidence yet. On a daily basis, teams of investigators and forensics in the backyard of the Hoyerman house are digging the ground and packing evidence. Search dogs were also involved in the work on the territory.
Suspicious Neighbor
Dominic Cancelleri, who lived near Hoyerman for 15 years, said he once heard Hoyerman digging in his backyard.

“When I was about 18 or 19, I watched TV in my basement,” he recalled. “I went outside at about one or two in the morning and heard digging in the backyard next door.”
The guy really wanted to go and check what it was and look over the fence, but something stopped him.
The guy also said that Hoyerman regularly burned something in the backyard.
“He was burning garbage and I could smell the smell,” he added. “Every few weeks I could smell the burnt garbage in his yard again.”
House of Shriveled Heads
Another local resident who worked in Hoyerman’s yard recounted how he once threatened to fire him if he ever entered the house. Troy Wicks, 23, lives a few blocks from Hoyerman and until June 2022 mowed the suspect’s lawn weekly or biweekly.
“He seemed to have no emotions. He always has the same expression, a blank look. He was very monotonous when I talked to him,” Weeks said. “Heuermann always told me, ‘If you’re thirsty or need anything, knock on the back door, but never enter the house, that’s the only rule.’
He told Weeks that if he ever tried to open the doors to the house, he “couldn’t work for him.”
“I was very surprised by the conditions in his house. One day, looking out the back window, I saw four heads made of coconuts with faces carved into them. I found it very creepy,” he said. “My friends and I used to call this place the home of shrunken heads.”
Wicks stopped working for Hoyerman in June 2022 after he cheated him out of $5.
