A sculpture of the legendary New York alligator was installed in Union Square

Alligators living in the sewers of New York City are an urban legend that has been around for decades. Surprisingly, over all these years it has not lost its popularity. Many New Yorkers still believe that there are definitely alligators in sewers, you just need to look for them more carefully.

Starting today (October 17th), the city has evidence of alligators in the sewers… well, at least something like evidence.

Swedish sculptor Alexander Klingspor created a statue of an alligator in a New York sewer. The monument represents an alligator wrapped around a distinctive city sewer manhole cover.

Klingspor says he was inspired by the persistence of the myth of alligators in New York’s sewers.

This story, according to him, does not want to die; it constantly returns and acquires new details.
