Over the past 12 years, the fearless, classically trained, prog-funk-jazz-pop-soul-jam quintet Phony Ppl have elevated beyond their Brooklyn roots to international recognition as a collective that’s as limitless as its music. The warmth of Phony Ppl's lyrics can be mainly credited to lead vocalist Elbee Thrie. Composer Aja Grant provides co-writing, the keys, and much of the band’s arrangements. Strings are manned by guitarist Elijah Rawk and Bari Bass, Phony Ppl’s visual artist and bass player. The crew’s heartbeat is percussionist Matthew Byas, son of DJ Jazzy Jay of the legendary Zulu Nation. Following praise from the likes of Tyler, the Creator and Childish Gambino, opening sets for Erykah Badu and Jill Scott, and a lengthy series of residencies at New York City’s Blue Note Jazz Club, one of America's most in-demand live combos will make their long overdue Lincoln Center debut with a fiery set of unmistakable party-starting jams from the always growing Phony Ppl catalog.
Lincoln Center seeks to create a more inclusive experience for audiences by providing a range of accommodations for all performances, no request necessary.
