Don’t miss our screening of Shirley (2024, John Ridley, 116 min) in conjunction with our new exhibition Changing the Face of Democracy: Chisholm at 100. The film follows Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm during her historic presidential run in 1972, highlighting both her challenges and triumphs.

After growing up in Brooklyn and Barbados, Chisholm became first Black woman elected to Congress and the first woman to run for president on a major party ticket. Our exhibition illuminates her trajectory, New York ties, and her continuing impact.

Expand your screening experience by joining us for a tour of Changing the Face of Democracy with exhibition co-curator, Puffin Foundation Curator of Social Activism Sarah Seidman. Limited tickets for the tour can be purchased here.
